The Monbulk Fire Brigade provides a fully volunteer fire and emergency service to the communities of Monbulk and the Dandenong Ranges.

Monbulk Fire Brigade, in addition to providing fire prevention and suppression also provides the primary rescue service (including road accident rescue, industrial and rope rescue) to the Dandenong Ranges communities of Monbulk, Belgrave, Belgrave Sth, Upwey, Kallista, Selby, Sassafrass, Ferny Creek, Olinda, Kalorama, Silvan, Upper Ferntree Gully, and Macclesfield.  Rescue has also on occasions been provided to support the SES in areas such as Lysterfield, Ferntree Gully,  Boronia, Emerald, and Clematis.

The Monbulk Fire Brigade comprises 30+ members and 4 vehicles including, Tanker, Pumper Tanker, Rescue and Rescue Support.  The brigade also has support equipment such as portable and trailer mounted pumps.

 

The brigade has upgraded the rescue support vehicle to a 4WD Toyota Hilux AUV with a purpose built body. This vehicle is about to upgraded to the new Hilux model in the last half of 2009.

Open Air Burning within the Shire of Yarra Ranges -

Open air burning within the Shire of Yarra Ranges is restricted in accordance with  "Open Air Burning Local Law 1996".

For further information on Open air buring (including the use of incinerators, barbecues) refer to  "When Can I Burn" on the Shire of Yarra Ranges website. 

With the warmer upon us, all care must be taken when open air burning.  Fires can quickly spread to trees, sheds, houses.

Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) may be conducting prescribed burns which are visible for some kilometres. Please see the DSE 'Burns Today'  for more information on prescribed burns (including enquiries contact information).
